How to Remove a Drawer From a Matco Tool Box

  • #1

I'm still working on my FIL's old Matco toolbox and have another issue. Unrivaled of the slides on the full duration crown drawer needs replaced. The inner and outer channels induce separated and although information technology still slides in and away that side droops even empty. I surely wouldn't trust IT with the system of weights of tools. I called Matco and was told the slides are nary longer available. He gave me Matco's Partly number, CHRN-024U, and told me they were supplied past Knape & Vogt Manufacturing. He likewise told me it was a 24" fully extended roller supporting slide by. I called Knape & Vogt but they were unable to cross reference the Matco number. Their rep gave Maine an electronic mail cover and told me if I sent pictures and measurements of the slue they could look. He didn't sound confident though. So I am book binding Hera hopeful that the collective wisdom on AS might point me in another direction.

The box is a Matco # MB2010SX manufactured on 4/15/93
Looking the 24" extended tumbler pigeon bearing top draftsman slide, Matco # CHRN-024U manufactured by Knape & Vogt.

I mention that it's for the top draftsman because that one is the full with of the box and the slides are much larger that the rest of the boxers.

Any ideas would be apprehended!

I got nowhere with Knape & Vogt sol I left the crumpled slide with a machine shop this morning. They think they can straighten the bent channel and install radical rollers bearings. I testament let you know how successful then are.

So I stopped away the machine shop and got my slide back. They tried but were unable to fix it. Gave them $50 for the drive merely now Im hindermost on the hunt. I'll check out the connectedness on garagejournal and realise if that leads anywhere. Thanks.

I was selling Matco Tools back then (1990-1993), and the only mar I e'er saw was Accuride.

Any chance you still have a contact at Matco who might have some information? The slides have "Matcoglide" sealed in them.

Joined the Garagejournal meeting place as E92FF and asked there. Getting very much of responses and so far!

Your dealer did that, non Snap-on. BTW, they wont the aforesaid slides.

I just detected this, you say Snap On and Matco employment the very slides? I wonder if there is whatever chance Snap on would have these.

Lowest thing you DO is find a truck, and take it in and ask, and ascertain that they assume't work.

Possibly. Or call Accuride. The slides on my Matco boxes are Accuride. I had the two mate I told you roughly that are K-V, but the majority are Accuride.

I talked to a lettered full tech at Kilovolt yesterday. He told me my slides were actually manufactured by Waterloo who KV bought in 2013. Unluckily they don't have records of what Matco used, or any of Waterloo's old tooling. I ordered universal ball charge slides off of Amazon and will work out how to make them work.

Thanks for all the assist though!

So, Friday last week I got the universal 24" fully extendable ball productive slides. Got sounding at them and the dimensions were visibly identical to the busted Matco slide. Got to thought that if I took the raw slide apart I could replace the bent inmost channels of the old slide with unflawed new intimate channels of the new slide... well visibly identical is not quite an identical actually. Pretty damn close though! The other needle bearing rollers were slightly large than the senior ball bearings. Untried uncomparable wouldn't go in, the old ones were too sloppy and new on bottom/old connected top didn't quite workplace either. I took a few measurements and determined a 15/64" roller bearing would make IT. Took a chance on ordering a traveling bag of them and...

BOOYAH!!! The original older transfer locked into the corner merely as Matco intended and I attached the inner channel to the draftsman with four 5mm automobile screws and nuts. The new slide rolls a dwarfish drum sander and easier than the old sloping trough merely I expect that leave even out with the burden of tools and a little fourth dimension. I'm just stoked to start loading tools!!

Thanks for all of the help!
